is this apple’s iPhone?

September 14, 2006

Our good friends at MacRumors have posted the above “artist rendition” of Apple’s fabled “iPhone,” ostensibly deep in development at the company’s Cupertino, CA, headquarters. It looks quite a bit like a 1G iPod nano, I think, though the site warns that certain details may be inaccurate as the design has not yet been finalized. This news comes at the heels of my post a few days ago about one technology industry analyst’s report that the iPhone “has moved from concept to prototype and recently has progressed to near completion as a production unit.”

We must remember, though, that Apple has never publicly commented on the existence of the iPhone, though CFO Robert Oppenheimer’s comments during July’s Q3 conference call–among other things— have provided ample grist for the rumor mill. The earliest we might see an announcement regarding the product is during Apple’s next “special event,” scheduled for July 25th, just prior to the Photokina show in Germany (see invite below). Don’t count on it, though.
