new iPods to drop 9/12?
September 4, 2006
Take this with a large pinch of salt, but ThinkSecret is reporting that Apple will introduce a new version of its iPod nano and an updated 5G iPod during its media event next Tuesday, September 12th. The updated nano is said to feature a metallic enclosure in multiple color options, rather like the old iPod mini, and should top out at 6-8GB of flash storage. The 5G iPod will only be upgraded with “increased capacities,” probably 40GB/80GB, with the article claiming that the long-rumored “video iPod” will replace it early next year.
These releases are in addition to the already-confirmed iMac updates and past-due MacBook Pro updates, plus the imminent introduction of an iTunes movie store. Finally, the new products should be on display for attendees of the Apple Paris Expo, which begins on the 12th (not much of a consolation, if you ask me). Again, even the “confirmed” rumors must be considered tentative until the official announcements. It is highly unlikely that all of the above will see release at this one event, if the past is any indication.
