Production Weekly reports that actors Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) will star in writer Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut, entitled Synecdoche. The film is to revolve around “an anguished playwright and several women in his life”, and should begin shooting next summer. On a related note, I recently watched Kaufman’s 2002 film Adaptation but decided against writing about it here due to my rather scrambled recollection of it and consequent inability to formulate a compelling opinion; the lateness of the viewing was not helped by the inexplicable absurdity of the last 40 minutes or so–you really must see it to know what I mean–but that’s part of the appeal, I suppose. In any case, I look forward to seeing what Mr. Kaufman manage with control over both the script and the camera; this film is definitely one to watch.
