Hold on to your hats folks, because Engadget has exclusive photos of something called the “iChat Mobile”, which certainly looks like the iPhone everyone’s been talking about. Of course, it could be a clever hoax like so many others, as commenters on the post have noted that the camera is poorly positioned for videoconferencing and that the lack of a clickwheel means lots of button presses to scroll through tracks: not exactly Apple’s style. We’ll just have to wait until WWDC next week to find out for sure. It can’t come fast enough.
Update: Based on comments from the post, this is most likely a fake. The shadow on the wheel-shaped button is inconsistent with the shadowing on the rest of the device, and it has been pointed out that the Apple Remote has a similar design that could easily have been adapted to produce the above rendering. Finally, the diagonal line highlighting the glossiness of the phone should, according to past Apple presentation standards, extend for the entire length of the body.
